High alloy austenitic stainless steel SUS 309

SUS 309 is a high-alloy austenitic stainless steel whose main components include iron, chromium, nickel and a small amount of carbon, silicon, manganese and other elements. Specifically, the content of chromium accounts for 12.5% to 14.5% of the total alloy, the content of nickel accounts for 6.5% to 8.5%, and the content of carbon is controlled below 0.1%. This specific chemical composition gives SUS 309 excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties in high temperature environments.

There are significant differences between SUS309 and SUS316 stainless steel in many aspects.

First of all, from the chemical composition point of view, SUS309 stainless steel is mainly composed of chromium, nickel and silicon, with the contents of chromium and nickel being 22%~24% and 12%~15% respectively. SUS316 stainless steel is mainly composed of chromium, nickel, molybdenum, silicon, nitrogen and manganese. The contents of chromium and nickel are 16%~18% and 10%~14% respectively. These differences lead to different properties and applications of the two stainless steels.

In terms of performance, SUS309 stainless steel has good heat resistance and can maintain stable performance in high temperature environments. It also has excellent corrosion resistance and can resist corrosion in oxidizing and reducing acidic environments. In addition, it has high strength and good processing properties. SUS316 stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance, especially against corrosion in acids, salts, oxides and high-temperature environments, and can resist common corrosive media such as sulfuric acid, chloride, etc. At the same time, it also has good oxidation resistance at high temperatures, and has good strength and plasticity.

In terms of applications, SUS309 stainless steel is often used in equipment such as heat exchangers, furnaces and pipes at high temperatures, as well as equipment manufacturing in the chemical processing and petrochemical industries. Due to its high strength and wear-resistant properties, it can also withstand high stresses and severe impacts. SUS316 stainless steel is widely used in harsh environments such as marine and chemical industries, as well as applications requiring high strength and toughness.

SUS309 stainless steel is more resistant to high temperatures than SUS316 stainless steel.

SUS309 stainless steel is a high-temperature stainless steel with good heat resistance and corrosion resistance. It can maintain good mechanical properties and antioxidant properties for a long time in high temperature environments. Its operating temperature range is usually between 700℃ and 900℃, but it can also reach above 1100℃ under special circumstances. This makes SUS309 stainless steel widely used in the manufacturing of high-temperature equipment such as furnaces and combustion chambers.

Although SUS316 stainless steel also has good corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance, its heat resistance temperature is about 800 to 900°C. At higher temperatures, its strength and antioxidant properties may be reduced.
