AH40 Steel: Structural Core of Heavy-Duty Vessels

AH40 is a high-strength marine structural steel belonging to the high-strength low-alloy series, primarily used in building large heavy-duty ships and marine structures. With a higher strength grade than AH36, it meets design requirements for higher loads.

AH40 combines high strength with good weldability, featuring a yield strength of no less than 390MPa and tensile strength of 510-660MPa, suitable for hull parts bearing heavy loads. Optimized rolling processes ensure uniform structure and stable mechanical properties, with low crack susceptibility during welding. Chemically, it contains ≤0.18% carbon, 1.00%-1.80% manganese, 0.10%-0.50% silicon, and uses microalloying to enhance strength, with strictly controlled impurities.

Applications include hull skeletons and load-bearing structures of large container ships, bulk carriers, and oil tankers, as well as heavy-duty equipment like port cranes and offshore heavy platforms. In ship components such as hatch coamings and side longitudinal bones bearing large loads, AH40 effectively distributes stress, ensuring long-term stable structural operation.
